5 out of 5 stars Great surprise   July 26, 2010

I'm very new to The Coral (1 week!). I owe them no loyalty. On the back of hearing 1000 years on the Radio and some reviews I purchased The Singles and Butterfly House at the same time. I loved the 60s vibe even though I grew up with music from the 80s/90s. I'm best placed to review Butterfly House without being influenced with what The Coral has done in the past. So often albums are reviewed against what bands have done before without being assessed in their own right.

I don't write reviews; however this album is so exceptional, I felt obliged to do so. From the first listen over the weekend, In my mind there are no weak songs. The so called bonus songs do those songs a disservice as they stand up with all the songs that have gone before. What you get on this album are 17 songs ranging from good to fabulous. I loved the Beatles and many bands that have been influenced by them. Oasis spring to mind as a band that have produced some great music over several albums, but my disappointment has been that on every album, except for their first two, there have been many songs to skip. Even the great Beatles albums included a few misses on each of them.

In some respects I been left feeling slightly disappointed with The Singles collection, which overall is very good and a welcome addition to my music library. Butterfly House is on a different level in terms of depth of sound, music production and harmonies. The album contains a bit of The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Beach Boys and even some of the best of Pink Floyd. To me a great combination to guarantee entertainment.

The only downside is when The Coral release their next album I'll have to compare it to Butterfly House and may well be disappointed. I'll put my trust in these talented guys.

I bought this CD after hearing 1000 years and I am not disappointed. I find it consistent unlike some CDs you buy. It has a touch of the 70s about it - West Coast America - but with a modern twist. It's excellent. Thoroughly recommend it.

Superb album from the boys from the Wirral. Must be one of the most underrated bands ever!

This is the best album by these chaps to date - and no mean feat to better what has gone before. The album has a great feel and the guitar and vocal arrangements are just brilliant. I can't fault it at all. A must have!

Pure Brilliance from start to finish- for me the last two albums- this and roots and echoes are by far away their best. Need to buy these two on vinyl.
