As i suffer from Gloucoma+cataracts, and being a avid reader,i,have been looking for a device for aiding me to read. this device is the best as as the eyes become tired you can increase the brightness at a push of a button.would reccomend to any person with eye problems(don,t buy cheaper versions not upto same standard)

5 out of 5 stars Great, but cleaning issues and fingeprints   December 27, 2009

This is a great product. The LED is very easy on the eyes and the brightness level is perfect.

Here are my only 2 caveats so far:

1) It picks up fingerprints easily. You have to handle the plastic screen and put your fingers all over it when reading, so the body grease builds up fast.
2) So I'd like to know how best to clean it without damaging the surface. The pictures-only instruction leaflet points out you *must* wipe it side to side, not longways. But with what, just a soft dry cloth? I tried and had to work hard to get fingerprints to disappear. Can I use a screen-cleaning spray that works with laptops, Mr Philips?

5 out of 5 stars Truly illuminating   December 27, 2009

I bought this for my girlfriend who is an avid reader but who often refrains from putting on the main reading-light out for fear of disturbing my sleep. This highly portable light provides a solution and delivers a high level of performance - the light has three levels of luminosity which are selected by a further press of the on switch. It comes complete with a hard case which also contains the USB charger lead plus a soft case which protects the evenly lighted surface. Although it looks delicate, I believe it to be tougher than it looks. The battery life is also very good.

In summary, a high performing and complete product which should give long service to an avid reader both in the home and while travelling.

5 out of 5 stars Great little gadget, but not ideal for everyone   September 1, 2010
C. O'Brien (Scotland, UK)
I found this little gadget very useful - but it wouldn't do for everyone.

On the plus side, its level of illumination is very good, its charge lasts a long time and it's small, light and convenient to carry around in a handbag. It comes with its own cloth cover and hard plastic carrycase, about the size of a DVD. This makes it an ideal solution for plane trips, long car journeys or anywhere where you might need to read in the dark without disturbing others. The light is very localised even at the highest of the three intensity settings, so you're unlikely to wake a sleeping spouse or dazzle the designated driver. Unlike some other reviewers, I found it easy to clean - a quick wipe with a glass cloth seemed to work fine for me, but you need to remember which direction to do it or you can scratch the surface.

On the negative side, it's fairly expensive, and not everyone knows how to charge a gadget from a USB port, so if you get one of these for your granny make sure she has a computer or buy her a little USB charger to go with it. Its compact size means it's not ideal for reading large hardback books in bed - it's probably intended chiefly for the traveller or exec-on-the-move who carries a couple of paperbacks in his hand luggage.

On balance, though, I found it worked well. Maybe not an essential item, but a great stocking filler, especialy for the frequent flyers or literary insomniacs in your family.

I find the light excellent. I would say that it is the best reading light I have used.
