5 out of 5 stars A most enjoyable and beautifully presented series on Britains outdoors   August 27, 2007
Mr. P. J. R. LEWIS (Llandudno N Wales)

There was not a single dull moment throughout Griffs beautiful series and certain episodes really stood out as programmes of real interest.

The episode on the Pennines was of rare quality, naturally it was difficult to include everything on such a huge area of land stretching from County Durham to the foothills of Derbyshire but its clear that his source material and advisors did a superb job.

His comments on less than half an hour away were people who had never seen a mountain let alone walk them was quite thought provoking, here was a series of programmes that made you want to visit these gorgeous areas.

An episode to please everyone and its a pleasant surprise to see that this superb dvd set is available even before the series had finished.

Living here in the foothills of Snowdonia i was tempted to book accomodation in Scotland having seen his profile on the Highlands.

How could somebody do justice to such diverse areas as the Lakes, the Highlands, the Pennines and Snowdonia in such short space of time speaks volumes of this lovely series.

Even if you are not the outdoor type you couldnot denie this series was superb and for those who missed it or want to see it again (me included) then the dvd set is something you will want to see again and again because this was quality television.

5 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Viewing   January 16, 2008

I cannot but agree with all the other reviews. It is a joy to watch the series of really splendid landscape portraits. The presenter may be a bit chatty at times, too much of a media chap, and the background music at times turns into background noise, i.e. it gets too loud, but it provides great viewing altogether. The picture quality is excellent!

Well, after seeing just the commercial, i immediately wanted to buy the whole lot!

Its really interesting, and Griff adds his edge of entertainment along the way as he explored the diverse ladscapes of the mountains!

Well worth watching... and re-watching!

5 out of 5 stars Mountain - More than climbing..   April 24, 2010

I purchased this DVD as I was climbing the 'Three Peaks', Scafell Pike in the Lake District, Snowdon in Snowdonia North Wales and Ben Nevis And Scotland. As the series had sections on each area I gave it a go. For some reason I had missed this on TV when it was originally shown.

I was expecting a Julia Bradbury type series on the 'ascent' of each peak but after watching the first epsisode I realised that it was more about the mountains areas themsleves then any particular ascent on any particular day. They are a much more holisitc view of the history and people of each area and although there is some climbing this is not the dominating factor.

Gryf Rhys-Jones has a charming style and I found myself enjoying his dry humour and schoolboy enthusiam.

In all - not what I expected but hugely enjoyable for many other reasons.

I was very pleased with this DVD. I was unable to get it here in Australia so was very happy to have got it from you. It was an excellent series and I enjoyed seeing it again as I have visited some of the places in the past.
