I stumbled on to the Sookie Stakhouse series and read all 9 books in quick succession. I fell in love with the story and the characters. The first few books are the best and about 4/5 books in the plot seems to lull, but don't let that put you off as it does pick up again.
The stories of the characters are enjoyable and I found them really easy to read and VERY hard to put down. They don't compare to the TV series. As always in the transfer over to screen they miss a lot out and seemed to have dragged the first book out far too long. A lot happens in the first novel and in quick succession.
Very worth a read and a brilliant series to invest in, as very easy to pick up and read again.

Not being much of a reader (I've probably read 5 books since I left school 10 years ago) and not really knowing what sort of book I would enjoy, I found these books by chance and I absolutely loved reading them. I just could not put the books down and as soon as I'd finished one I just had to start the next straight away. Having not seen the TV series I had no expectations or foregone conclusions about the characters and I enjoyed unravelling their personalities myself through the various plot lines. In addition to the vampires, the introduction of weres, shifters, wiccans, witches and fae each with their own hierarchy structures, rituals and practices added more to the books and kept them interesting. The only disappointments I have are reading some reviews that had said what had happened in the book and that I have to wait for the 10th book to be released.
I am now lost as to what to read next that will be as interesting and enjoyable as this series has been.

Dark, sexy, funny! Loved it stayed up way too late finishing books way too many nights. I just had to know what was coming next!

I haven't quite finished but I am absolutely loving this series of books. Like a lot of people, I bought them because of the TV show, which I thought was excellent. As other reviewers have said, the books are different but they are every bit as good. Very sexy and lots of fun. Not a heavy read and not too serious but extremely imaginative and entertaining.

Having read some of the lower scoring reviews, I think that people need to take a serious break. A book is a different tool to a TV series and you will always get a different class of people who enjoy the books to the TV series, Just as the differences in the enjoyment of the stephanie meyers stuff. I hate with a capital H the books they are written for Kids and thats that, but I enjoy the movies.
Lets be correct, the TV series serialised one book over more hours than it would take the average reader to read the book. Thus they needed to embellish some of the things that happen. The TV series is all sex sex sex, the books actually show and chart Sookie's development as a character.
