Product Description A man with no eyes. Two tunnels in his head ...It's not easy being a witch, and it's not all whizzing about on broomsticks, but Tiffany Aching - teen witch - is doing her best. Until something evil wakes up, something that stirs up all the old stories about nasty old witches, so that just wearing a pointy hat suddenly seems a very bad idea.

Nearly almost - but brilliant, for all that... September 4, 2010 Mrs. M. Gallagher (London) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have every one of TP's books. He is far and away the best author on the planet, and probably off it as well - IMnsHO.. And, for all that he says he is a humanist, what he doesn't know about spirituality (not to mention quantum physics, human nature, psychology, philosophy and just about every other subject) is not worth knowing.
I love all his Discworld books to a greater or lesser degree - but I adore the Tiffany Aching books, there is something that truly resonates for me with each one, despite me being closer in age to Granny Weatherwax than Tiffany!
This book - it's a really good story. Un-put-downable in fact - but there is something indefinable that is different. Something small and subtle. It's not that it has darkness - there is darkness in most of the books, particularly involving the witches. But this time I felt that something was just a tiny bit different, compared to the earlier ones. Not in the story, but in the telling of it. And I can't intellectualise it - all I can say is that it felt different. When I read a good story I move in and live it while I read - most of us do. Good books engage you at that level of feeling and connection - and, while this one also engages you, it felt different to the others, and it was a difference I missed. And maybe that says more about me than the book - I have no idea!
I certainly recommmend it - and all of his books. They are astonishingly beautiful in ways even TP would probably never imagine.
Pratchett magic! September 2, 2010 terrikatz (North Wales) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
Sir Terry may not be a wizard (except with words) but he'd make a VERY good witch. He already has the hat...I SHALL WEAR MIDNIGHT features Tiffany Aching, witch of the Chalk, and I read it in one sitting. It's beyond terrific. It is brilliant. It shines. It made me laugh (You, the white kitten now more snobbish than a duchess) and it made me get wet-eyed. Tiffany is one day going to be the greatest of the Discworld witches. And Sir Terry has done it again. One question -- where can I get a golden hare?
A real page turner September 3, 2010 Pelargonium Pete (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is every bit as good as previous stories about Tiffany Aching, although possibly darker in tone. The novel starts with domestic violence and a dead child, and the mass hysteria of witch hunts through the ages is a constant theme. But this is balanced by all the usual humour (never far away with the Feegles), and Tiffany's strength and resourcefulness make her an inspiring heroine.
I found the plot of the book made it hard to put down, but it was also a very thought-provoking and humane book - a very satisfying read.
stripe me! September 7, 2010 Jayne M. Turner (welsh wales) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
TP has done it again! My number one grump with this book is, how the heck can I only give it five?! Number two grump, how am I supposed to do housework when this book made me want to reread all the Discworld novels all over again?! I got this yesterday and read it from cover to cover, once more Mr P has created a spellbinding (no pun there!) story, with smooth writing and solid character building. He really is a master of his art, grounding the book solidly in folklore and yet spinning a web of fantasy that is both humorous and elegiac, taking the reader on a journey in the head that you may not have known existed. All this and Sam Vimes too! TP is on sparkling form with this one, Nuff said!
A fine ending September 6, 2010 E. King 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
'I Shall Wear Midnight' feels like someone saying a fond farewell to a much loved friend, and sending them off in the best way possible. PTerry's illness has been well documented elsewhere, but in the back of my mind reading his latest offering, I couldn't help wondering if this was his way of tying up loose ends from past stories and leaving Tiffany in the best place possible before leaving it behind.
However, I loved the story, the characters growing up and moving on, and the happiness I felt at the end for Tiffany was very genuine.
Fingers crossed for more Discworld in the future.
