Product Description
Most people get presents on their sixteenth birthday. I get a prophecy that could save or destroy the world. That's how it is when you're the son of Poseidon, God of the Sea. According to an ancient prophecy, bad things will happen when I turn sixteen - because I'm the one who gets to decide the fate of the entire world.

5 out of 5 stars The Last Olympian   July 24, 2010

The last of the series and the best. The storyline is well paced and rewards you with an epic ending to a great series. Building up on everything established in the previous books, this will bring conclusion and end to everything. Prophesies, relationships, destinies, fates. Every open question and situation being built up upon will be finally revealed and concluded here.

The book never has a dull moment. Whether its tying up loose ends, interesting moments found by the way of Percy's dreams or epic battles that we suddenly find ourselves reading about against larger than life monsters from legends.. this book seems to have a bit of everything. The characters have become more broad since their initial introduction in Book 1 and the story grabs you from the start. Another great fantasy book that is worth a look is 'Godstone - The Kairos Boxes' by G.A Williams -

Move over JK Rowling and Eoin Colfer - Percy Jackson is much cooler than Harry Potter and more believable than Artemis Fowl. I bought this by mistake - thought I'd got the first book in the series rather than the last one, but enjoyed it tremendously even though I'd missed a lot of the backplot - which I'm now planning to rectify. Good stuff!

So here it is. The final battle. Olympus will stand or fall by one person's choice.

And it all begins with a pegasus landing on a car.

The last book in Rick Roirdan's series reads more like a video game than a book. The final battle, which covers five days and all of Manhattan, takes up acts 2 and 3 of the book, with act 1 being taken by Percy's journey to the Underworld to take on the Curse of Achillies, his only hope against Kronos.

That's not a complaint, in fact it's quite the opposite. Although I do feel sorry for the poor guys who have to make the film adaptation of this in howver many years time.

There's no holding back now from Riordan. Thoes dominoes he's spent so long setting up come crashing down in a story of triumph, fear, pain, hope, and enough other emotions to make your head hurt. A perfect finale to a brilliant series.

I've loved all the Percy Jackson books - and this was a worthy conclusion to the series. Riordan is good at injecting a certain moral ambiguity into the Titans/Olympians conflict - Prometheus forces Percy to remember that he counts some children of the Titans amongst his friends while the Olympian gods (as in the previous books) can be pretty chilly and capricious. Much of the interest centres around choices made by the rather darker characters - Luke, Nico and Hades himself - but there is also plenty of humour. Riordan exploits the comic possibilities of his updated and Americanised take on Greek mythology to the full.

5 out of 5 stars The End and Birth of the Olympus Series   May 19, 2009

Percy Jackson has been my favourite series of books ever since I grabbed the lightening thief, with each book getting better and better than the last building upon the classic Greek myths and introducing them into a modern world superbly. Each page had me gripped to the very end, with very strong characters, writing, humour and an epic end to the series.
The story its self is based on the prophecy of Percy Jackson our hero. Who has been foretold to either destroy or save Olympus. Meanwhile the villain of the series Luke/Kronos begins his siege upon he gods and it is up to the demigods to save New York.

It certainly didn't disappoint me in the slightest bit. Was a perfect ending and whilst I'm sad to see it end, I'm pleased he allowed the series to end on such a strong story.

I will add though, the book has set up the next announced half blood series that rick plans to release next year So lets hope it's as thrilling as the first.
